I do bang on a bit about lemons but there are some surprisingly good health benefits of lemons that you may not know about.

The ideal way to get your lemon hit is freshly squeezed into a glass of warm water (not chilled), as it is more gentle on you digestive system.

If you find that the juice of a whole lemon is too acidic for your taste buds, start with half a lemon or maybe a bit less.

I personally had to let my taste buds acclimatise to the acid hit so I actually started using Limes as the acid isn’t as sharp.

After a week or two drinking lime juice I changed over to using fresh squeezed lemons in my water and the acidic taste was actually quite refreshing.

I always use fresh lemons (not lemon juice concentrate) as the concentrate will lose a lot of the goodness that your body needs due to the processing.

How I Make My Lemon Water

Lemon water is so simple to make and literally takes less than a minute to prepare.

  • Grab a glass of warmer than room temperature water.
  • Cut a lemon in half and use a hand juicer to squeeze the juice from the lemon and pour into your water removing the seeds.
  • Next get into it. Just drink it down and enjoy.

I make these every morning before I leave the house and have found that after a few weeks I noticed quite a difference to how I was feeling inside.

Some Of The Many Health Benefits Of Drinking Lemon Water

1.
Fresh lemon water taken first up in the morning can help to kick start your digestive system and help with problems like bloating, heartburn and stomach gas.

2. Due to the antiseptic nature of lemons they are ideal for helping to cleanse your kidneys, liver and blood. Lemon water is ideal for boosting a sluggish liver which over time will help make you start to feel a lot more energetic.

3.Despite the citric acid found in lemons they are also high in minerals including, folate, potassium, magnesium and calcium which help to alkalize your body. Due to its neutralizing properties, lemons also help to reduce inflammation (I can vouch for this one fact alone).

4.Lemons are an extremely good source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is said to be essential for healthy skin but more important are the antioxidant, antibiotic and detoxifying effects that go with it as well.

5.With winter comes coughs and colds and the antibacterial qualities of lemons can help you avoid throat infections that are associated with these conditions.

6.Lemon water first up in the morning also helps to kick start your bowels so if you want to keep regular, keep taking your lemon water daily.

7.Taking lemon water will help your liver produce more bile which is what helps to digest the fats in your diet.

Just remember that the acid contained in lemons can have a negative impact on tooth enamel and start to cause tooth decay.

One way to help alleviate this side effect is to rinse your mouth with fresh water or even better brush your teeth.
